Calibrating forever

For StarAid to complete calibration and start guiding:

  1. The guide-scope must be properly focused,

  2. The mount must be reasonably well aligned on the pole (within 2 degrees),

  3. The mount must track normally and not be slewing,

  4. Three or more stars must be clearly in view via the guide-scope with good contrast, and

  5. The mount must respond well to all four guide signals (two if guiding in RA only).

There are some additional things to consider:

  1. Please use the latest software release. We release regularly to improve the performance and robustness of StarAid.

  2. Full-moon, twilight or light-pollution can severely reduce contrast. This makes it more difficult for StarAid to identify the stars in the image, causing calibration to take forever. An IR-pass filter can help with this. Refer to our section on using StarAid during twilight and moonlight conditions for more information.

  3. Your mount might have some quirks that StarAid has not been taught to deal with. Use the Support → Report a problem functionality in the StarAid web app to provide us with the logs we need to engineer a solution.
